Florida

This past week we all went down to Florida along with our friends Brandon and Daniel for the Surfing America Prime in New Smyrna and the 3 star Quiksilver Pro Junior in Cocoa Beach. Darsha was the only one who competed in the Prime and she got third in the under 18 division. At the Junior pro Darsha made it to the quarter finals in some typically lackluster Cocoa beach surf, and Shane got an =17th among the field of 80 mens competitors. This was Tyler's very first pro junior event and he surfed all the way to the quarters for an =13th overall and a $500 bonus for his efforts, and he even nearly made his quarter final when he got the highest score of the heat at a 7.4 but couldn't find the minimal 4 point backup score he needed to advance through the heavy international heat.

A big thanks to our good friends Ben and Zan for letting us all stay with them and their amazing hospitality. 

Winter storm Nemo

Winter storm Nemo brought some cold temperatures and fun waves to much of the east coast last weekend that Tyler and I took advantage of while Darsha was at work. We were fortunate enough to have expert lensmen Robbie Johnson and Michael Sing taking photos that day One of Michae's photos(5th one) even ran in an online ESM feature, where you can also check out a wrap up from the whole east coast

NSSA Contest

Well a couple weekends ago there was a local NSSA contest at Wrightsville Beach. The weather was cold but luckily we had some waves. I ended up getting 2nd Open Mens and 3rd in Explorer Juniors. Darsha ended up getting 1st in Open and Explorer Women's good job!

Darsha in Hawaii

I spent a few weeks in Hawaii recently and when I arrived in Honolulu Delta airlines had snapped two of my boards. I competed in the North Shore Surf Shop Pro Jr and made it to the quarter finals on the only board that made it in one piece. I had a great time staying with the Spear family and with Chelsea Tuach and Nikki Viesins, I hope you enjoy the photos ;)

Here is Darsha in the ESS ad that was featured on the inside cover of the newest Local Sessions surf magazine

Gromsearch/VQS

 

 

In the Outer Banks last month Tyler and Darsha competed in the Rip Curl Gromsearch and the Volcom VQS. Tyler was torn between competeing in his Easterns heats and his Gromsearch ones but ended up surfing well in both. Darsha had a close final and ended up in 2nd and earned an invitation to the national final at Uppers in November. The Volcom VQS is always a fun event and unfortunately Shane couldn't miss school to come up and compete but Tyler made it through to the final and placed 5th in the juniors and Darsha ended up winning the girls division.  

Easterns

This year the ESA Eastern Surfing Championships went down in the Outer Banks of North Carolina next to Jennete's pier. Everyone from OLF was ripping, Tyler got third in Junior Mens Darsha got second in Junior Womens and Shane won Mens. Shane left early to go back to school so the fifth picture is Tyler claiming it for him during awards, it was pretty awesome. Look for recaps from Grom Search and Volcom VQS coming soon..

NSSA

                 This weekend I competed in the first NSSA event of the Mid-Atlantic season in Wrightsville Beach. It's a rare thing to have waves for a contest on the East Coast but thanks to tropical storm Leslie, the waves were actually really fun and I was able to take 1st place in Explorer Womens and Open Womens.
